A Carnie in the Henhouse

(addressed to Houston city council)

Ladies, gentlemen, Mr. Mayor:

I find with dismay --as is the norm with BARC-- that Fusco has reduced the space available for cats, with forseeable consequences. Once again Ms. Marks disappoints as a watchdog of this shady character the Council saw fit to impose on helpless animals and  taxpayers.

Mere words cannot reflect the contempt every single Houston animal lover and advocate feels for Fusco and Marks for taking advantage, shamelessly, of volunteers who went all out to adopt, foster, or otherwise rescue cats whose time was up, in an attempt to make room for new arrivals. Instead, their space was ... well... robbed (there is no other way to say it) for offices. There is no greater use of BARC space, ladies and gentlemen, than to house homeless animals. If Marks and Fusco must office in their cars, that's what a decent person would gladly do rather than deprive a single creature of the space she or he needs to live ...  one more day.

More than a lack of human decency, however, the seizure of much-needed cat space points alarmingly at an all-too-obvious move on the part of our carnie-turned-shelter-expert, Fusco, to perpetuate himself as Bureau Chief. Beware. The fox has nothing on Fusco when it comes to guarding animals in cages.

Disgustedly. -- Dolores Proubasta
