An unforgettable sight

I spent 6 hours at the shelter today when I only intended to check on my girls, about 2 hours worth at the most, and go home to wrap presents. I walked the foster and left her in her kennel. About an hour later I was walking another pathetic dog, Missy, and noticed that a young couple was walking the foster again and her kennel mate, the equally pathetic Queen. I was glad that she was getting so much exercise and moved on.

Many steps later I turned around and I saw how they were trying to coax the foster to keep on going their way, but she was stubbornly planted pulling in my direction looking at me and not moving an inch. She was asking WHY!? And I send a mental message: "Because you will outlive me." I don't think she understands but the signt of her puzzlement is etched forever in my mind.
