Have we come this far for nothing?

This is a critical lull in the BARC storm. Everyone is tired from the last charge which got BARC out of DHHS and Fusco's contract tagged again. Both were victories for the minority (I fear we are) that hasn't been swept by the general complacency of letting Fusco do his thing hoping he's indeed, as The Houston Chronicle tells us, an emissary of God. Realistically, you and I know what will happen: Not much that is of lasting benefit for the real stakeholders, the BARC animals present and future.

Do you feel, like I do, that we should be using this brief interim before the next vote to (a) continue influencing City Hall against Fusco's contract, (b) have a Plan B ready if Fusco gets his contract, or (c) both?

All I know, is that right now Fusco is using his wiles to seduce more converts among the less sophisticated volunteers ... Jo Jones is being strongarmed by the Mayor and others to cooperate ... Marks and Williams are helping consolidate their idea to avoid appearing even more foolish than they do ... No one is idle, I assure you. Are we?

I submitted a rudimentary plan involving an Animal Advisory Committee to assist City Council in selecting the right BARC management and serve as a liaison between the new chief and city officials (since DHHS is out of the picture). I suggested that the advisors (not to exceed 10) should represent shelter management, veterinary, and animal advocacy expertise. No such committee will win 100% approval from you or me or the other anti-Fuscans, but it would be undoubtedly better than leaving the destiny of BARC to politicos and a New Joisey conman.

If I'm out of the loop and you know of a next step that's being planned by the likes of us to heal BARC, I will be relieved. Please let me know if I can help. But if nothing is going on ... have we come this far for nothing? -- Dolores
