Animal Abusers Registry

In the Land of Tyson Foods, the Arkansas Legislature has been traditionally wary of passing laws securing the well being of animals. Predictably, on 13 March 2017 a measure to create an "Animal Abusers Registry" failed in the Arkansas House. The bill by State Representative Clarke Tucker would have required felony animal abusers to register -- for a limited period of time only (should be for life) -- with the Arkansas Crime Information Center.

The proposed bill was “narrow” and “targeted” according to Rep. Tucker as part of an effort to gain consensus and allay agribusiness concerns of broad animal protections to include farmed animals – God forbid!

Still, any Animal Abusers Registry would have been better that none. It is a safe bet, however, that a meaningful one will not exist in Arkansas while animal agribusiness calls the shots in state politics. 

It is a miniscule contribution to justice and public awareness that I should maintain an alphabetical list of names of perpetrators of cruelty against animals gathered on my occasional perusal of the Fayetteville press since 2013 -- I'll do better from now on. The names that have come to my attention have not been duly punished for their crimes; it is up to us to keep them in mind. Do not associate, hire, shelter, or in any way succor these perverts:
